Sunday Morning Christian Education Hour: 9:00 AM (September-May)
"The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right" 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Fall 2020-Spring 2021
Adult Discipleship Classes:
Adult Discipleship Classes:
- Salt & Light to the World--A Christian Calling: This year's class will be working on understanding how Christians can be salt and light to our decaying world. We will examine what the Bible says on these issues from a study in the Old and New Testaments. I addition, we will talk about specific things we can do AND how we can be salt and light. Our goal is to arrive at ways to let our light shine into the world. It is hoped that our class will work together to develop some wonderful strategies that will equip every student with things that can be done for our Lord at this time. This will be the most practical and helpful class I have taught in my ministry. Don't miss it! Taught by Pastor Jeff Carlson in the Sanctuary
- The Westminster Confessions: As the world we live becomes more and more toxic to our faith, Christians need to be arming themselves with strong Biblical foundations. We will dive deep into theology as summarized in the Westminster Confessions of Faith. The Confessions have a high view of God and a high view of Scripture. We will look at the Scriptural basis of the Confessions. We will use what we learn in the Confessions to unite with other professing Christians and engage the world around us. Join us as we discuss and answer question like, "What is the greatest problem in the world?", "What should Christians commend to the world?", and "How do we live up to the doctrine of grace?" Studying the Confessions will prepare us and strengthen our ministry during these times. Teacher/Discussion Leader Ryan Balili (1st Semester) in the Fellowship Hall
- The 7 Feasts of the Lord--a.k.a "God's Appointments with Man": 3400 years ago God gave man His calendar of events that He would fulfill at their appointed times. Every year He required a dress rehearsal of those events on the exact day they would eventually come to pass. A knowledge of these feasts reveals where are are in God's calendar and what we can expect next, as well as enabling a deeper understanding of practically every passage in the Bible. While teaching this class 3 times in another church, I have found that even someone as young as 8 years old can grasp this information. Whether for the first time or as a review, I guarantee this class will reveal new and exciting things. Teacher/Discussion Leader: Rich Dausman
- Learn the Bible in 24 Hours: Each week we will watch a video of Dr. Chuck Missler (naval engineer, NASA businessman, Hebrew/Greek scholar, and Bible-lover) leading us through each book of the Bible. He provides an overview with lots of deep insights, and uries us to "search the Scriptures daily" ourselves, like the Bereans (Acts 17:11) There will be class handouts, discussion, and further suggestions for those who like to dig deeper. Discussion Leader: Deb Marcusse
Youth Discipleship Classes:
Oakhill's youth discipleship has been under consistent leadership for many years. The teachers all work together, interweaving their programs so that the youth will progress in their spiritual understanding of our Amazing Lord.

- Senior High (Grades 9-12):We will use Josh McDowell's book "Beyond Belief to Convictions" and Ravi Zacharias' book "Can Man Live without God?" as guide to helps our youth stand strong in the face of today's culture and to give our youth an in-depth look at the consequences of living without God. We will also supplement our discussions with the Westminster Larger Catechism to enlighten our youth with what it is to live with the one true God., Taught by Tom Broughton (1st Semester), Ryan Balili (2nd Semester)
- Junior High: (Grades 6 to 8): We will be using a curriculum for middle school youth entitled "G2R-Promises". Our time together will take us on a journey to discover the many promises recorded in the Bible to not only provide a Savior, but also to love and guild the Lord's people. It is a comprehensive look at the Covenants of Grace from Genesis to Revelation(G2R) to see how God's promises are made and kept through the lives and events of Biblical characters. Taught by Dianne Carlson
- Elementary Grades (Grades 2 to 5): Is God talking to me? How do I know? What is he saying? In this class, students learn how to read and understand God’s word through studying the book of Genesis. Taught by Becky Walsh & Sara Coryell
- Young Ones (4 yrs - 1st Grade): This class will help the children to apply the lessons learned in Biblical stories to their own life. They will also learn to watch for God in their daily experiences and will share their God sightings each week. The children will learn to pray and to share their faith with their family. This is a great place for any child to start their exposure to the Lord’s Word and His Church. Taught by Barb Fles & Rick Schaafsma
- Nursery (Infants - 3 years): During the Discipleship Hour we have nursery care. Staffed by Pat Price
- Nursery: Our Nursery is a year-round program staffed by loving Oakhill parents and volunteers.
- Junior. Church- 4 yrs - 1st grade: To reinforce their church school classes, as well as to help the children better understand worship, a special program has been developed called Junior Church. Junior Church is designed for children ages 4 through 1st grade. Children who participate in this program will be excused from the adult service during the offertory. This ministry has been a wonderful way for children to grow into the worshiping community, as well as giving parents an opportunity for more freedom and focus on their own worship time. Parents are asked to please pick up their children immediately after worship.
