Who Are We?

Our congregation was started as a mission church about 35 years ago. Like many mission churches, our congregation began with a few families meeting in a rented school house. Our current building and congregation reflects a long process of growth and change since that time.

The members of our church are from all over the Grand Rapids area, with a majority coming from the Northeast. While our membership covers all ages, many of our members are 30-50 years old with children. Our members work in all professions, from manufacturing to professional. While our membership covers the entire ranges of socio-ecomonic classes, most would describe themseles as middle class in income and values.

Our church could best be described as being evangelical in its spiritual identity. We have included a few statements of our faith within this document to let you know a little about what we believe. Our purpose is to know the Lord and make Him known to others. While some of our members have a Presbyterian background, many of us were raised in other traditions from Christian Reformed to Baptist. We came to Oakhill, not to be a part of a particular denomination, but because we felt this was the place the Lord called us to be.
